texture

The textural qualities of materials can have a powerful impact on the character of a space, acting upon both our sense of sight and touch.  Archiplan Studio's  design for the Appartamento AL in Mantova, Italy is a striking example of this potential.  The architects enrich a simple modern design through the thoughtful expression of the 'imperfect' organic textures at work in both old and new materials.  I really appreciate the careful use of light and color to create emphasis and enhance the various textures throughout the project.  Check out more photos here.
