where old meets new

The Waterhouse at North Bund is a very interesting adaptive reuse project in Shanghai by Chinese architects NHDRO. This former Japanese army headquarters from the 1930's has been converted to a boutique hotel and beautifully articulates the distinction of old and new, retaining the rawness of the building's stripped concrete and brick walls to contrast the crisp modern detailing and a new Corten steel addition on the roof. Full of character and wonderful details! Check out more here.
