A Fad or Here to Stay?

C & I are in the middle of planning our bathroom remodel, and I am having some serious tile issues... I want to have an all white bathroom and tile EVERYTHING... but I can't decide on the tile. I've been going back and forth between this small glass mosaic (which is actually rather affordable) and 2x2 white ceramic tile (with a neutral medley on the floor)... I have to admit that I'm a little bit nervous that these glass mosaic tiles are going the way of the vessel sink.... which I think we can all admit is a fad that has passed its prime.
.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Are mosaic tiles here to stay... or on their way out?
I would seriously appreciate any and all comments....

like anything i think it totally depends on the execution but i would steer clear of mosaic tiles at this stage - although i was never particularly a fan of them i HAVE seen it done well. by 2x2 tiles do you mean 2"x2'? can you post photos of the options?

i have been noticing tiles lately that look really nice, and they are kind of shaped like bricks. im sure there is a better name for them than that, but they are longer than they are tall. they remind me of old train stations or something. they are usually white. or black and white.

As sarah suggests, if you want to go for small tiles then non-square keeps some of the effect of mosiacs but is a bit fresher. There are some lovely rectangular ones available, and some with some interesting textures.

Alternatively you could go to the other extreme and have huge sheets as jassim suggests. Something like Corian could look good and could be machined to get a surface pattern.

You should add a splash of color to your bathroom. Why must everything be white? An accent color really helps define a space. It will add a lot of character to your bathroom. I would deffinitly go with the mosaic tiles.

I too have seen them done well but...every contractor we've had has so far screwed them up. i.e. not flat and level, put them in upside down, etc. while throwing them completely off schedule while they cursed us I'm sure. ... Just my experience thus far don't know if it helps.

I wouldn't listen to Anonymous. there is nothing wrong with black and white. the colour can be added through more ephemeral elements such as flowers and your towel wear. Accent colours are even more likely to date as well. I think Sarah and Jassim are on the right track. I wouldn't suggest corian, it is pretty nasty stuff.

Thanks to everyone for their comments... I haven't totally made up my mind about the tile, but I have decided against glass mosaics. I've really been feeling like they are a fad on their way out, and the more I hear (or read) from everyone... the stronger I feel.
I'm going to look into some other options besides the 2"x2" ceramics, but we're definetly on a budget... so I'm not sure how crazy we can go...
As for color, I'm still leaning towards neutrals, so that I can use color with more disposable things like towels (that can then be changed when I'm sick of the color)... but again, I'm not set.
I'll keep you posted as I start making more decisions.
Thanks for all of the great advice/opions so far... and feel free to keep them coming!
