More Circumvention

May 13, 2007

Reading up on the house by Jackson Clements Burrows Architects, I was reminded of this house by Richard Meier located in Naples, Florida. Complete in 1998, the Neugebauer House is one of the few projects by RM we studied in school that I actually liked. I'm not sure if its the form of the home or the concept behind the resolution, but I think that its a pretty great structure. Confined by local restrictions requiring a pitched roof, RM provided an inverted roof structure that both conformed to and mocked the regulations. You can almost see the twinkle in the designers' eyes as they found a way to circumvent the rules!
